self-defense

Most people believe that martial artists are always looking for a fight. In fact, this is not the case for the chinese martial artists (kung fu practitioners) I have been fortunate to meet. Every good kung fu person I have ever met has been humble, and as they have advanced in their chosen system or style, they have become even more gentle and soft spoken. This is not to say that kung fu practitioners are withdrawn or shy, simply that they have a centered and focused approach to things and don't get stressed easily.

The knowledge that their skills can injure and even kill another human being causes many advanced martial artists to reserve themselves out of concern for others.

All classic martial arts stem from Shao Lin. Another way to say this is that Shao Lin is the root or original seed for the asian style of martial arts that have spread around the world. Hung Gar Kung Fu is no exception and is traced directly to the venerable Shao Lin abbot Gee Seen. This man and his followers were anti-Ching revolutionaries and trained many fighters for the purpose of restoring the Ming to power.

Forms are the language of Hung Gar Kung Fu. One of the conversations that this language is VERY capable of having is self-protection and self-defense. Hidden within these classic forms are the wonderful methods of self-preservation at many levels.

From simple attack and defense drills in the beginning, and as we progress, life preservation and life extension practices mainly via Tid Sin Kuen (Iron Wire Fist) set.
