iron hand & iron palm

There have been many fantastic stories regarding the iron hand or iron palm skills. Unfortunately, there have been just as many deceptive and false "masters" of the skill - especially here in Delaware.

Iron Palm is really an extension of the kung fu style that it is associated with. It is not a "style" really but more of a skill within a style and system. The Hung Gar system, for example, utilizes an iron palm training process that holds to many of the generally accepted rules for this kind of training. It may contain a little more of the grabbing and clawing techniques than other schools simply because of the Hung Kuen Tiger influence.

Generally, iron palm training can be broken down into some of these major components;

1. knowing how to strike using energy from your core

2. knowing what materials to train with and choosing "direct or indirect" methods

3. knowing how to make a good iron hit wine or "dit da jow" / "teih ta jiew"

4. knowing how to train, times of day, medicine usage, timing etc.

5. setting goals for achieving desired results and safely achieving same

At advanced levels, knowing how to combine your hei gung training with your iron hitting skills will achieve very good results. Iron palm will take many years to truly master. However, with diligent practice in the correct training methods under a qualified sifu, very good results can be achieved within 100 days.
